INDUSTRY

One of Australia’s largest insurance providers had significant concerns that leaders were not innovative or that the company did not have the depth in leadership talent to fill future vacancies. An innovative leadership program was developed with the objective being to increase management depth and ensure longevity for the organisation.  The program was aimed at preparing the company to meet the demands of more fluid organisational structures by grooming employees for increasingly demanding leadership positions and preparing the organisation for demographic trends that will sharply decrease leadership ranks.

An independent evaluation was carried out by an external agency who found that participants expressed consider value in participating in the program, For example one manager wrote “I found the insights from the assessment tool a useful way to understand myself and others and it has framed my thinking regarding interactions with others. The personalised one-on-one touch of the program was particularly excellent and the thorough communications of results to me was helpful”.

Internal metrics also showed that group participants had on average 60% less turnover than the companies report figure and those participating played strategic roles in a recent $250 plus million acquisition of another insurer. A takeover that required leaders to exhibit considerable flexibility and innovative solutions as both companies had 12 month deadline to merge.

Insurance

A large Australian Government agency was receiving strong criticisms from the Australian National Audit Office (ANAO) and Government contracted consultants on the way it carried out its core business. Significant culture shifts needed to occur amongst senior technical experts on dealing with community expectations and employees capabilities in undertaking its core function. A comprehensive leadership change program for technical leaders was developed.

An independent evaluation found that the work undertaken had improved not only the quality of the work being produced by Government employees undertaking the leadership change program, but that service levels standards (i.e., turnaround times for meeting client requests) had improved. This led the leadership quality assurance program to be nominated and win a Commissioners Australian Day Award for excellence in innovation.

Government

A community based, not-for-profit organisation that has been in operation for well over 80 years and in that time it has grown to establish a network of centres across metropolitan, regional and rural New South Wales wish to establish a commercial learning division.

People and Organisation Development team are currently project managing the transforming of the organisation into a Registered Training Organisation (RTO).
